Welcome to Computing and Communications
(C&C), UCR’s enterprise-wide technology services organization.
Under the direction of Associate Vice Chancellor Charles Rowley, this
unit provides a wide variety of technology services and support to virtually
all campus constituents.
During the past several years, UCR has utilized technology
as a means to sustain and enable research and teaching excellence, to
improve the effectiveness of its administrative operations, and to enhance
all forms of electronic communications. Through various partnerships,
projects, and initiatives, C&C’s departments have facilitated
and enabled this use of technology in support of campus faculty, staff,
and students. We invite you to explore some of the very best new programs
and collaborations C&C offers the campus now, particularly, the latest
news regarding the city’s partnership with UCR to employ dark fiber
within the University network, as well as current updates to iSmart and
eClassroom websites. In addition, a new storage service has been made
available to UCR faculty which enables them to install and share iShare
accounts with specified users, as well as create their own personal website.
UCR insists upon operating at top security. With this in
mind, the globalization of technology demands consistent attention and
upgrading. We encourage you to explore our most recent information, services,
and latest procedures for ensuring the protection of personal privacy
of each member of the UCR community. Our latest update in procedures is
documented under UCR Procedures, Practices, and Guidelines relating to
U.C. Electronic Information Security (IS-3) and SB1386 policies, both
of which study the most specified ways that we, at C&C, are creating
a safer, more secure, and accurate environment for our University faculty,
staff and, student’s electronic resource usage campus-wide.
The AVC's current technology highlight is the Smart
Classrooms website. The effort to upgrade all General Assignment classrooms
began during the 99/00 budget and planning process. Currently, there are
60 Smart Classrooms.
We are very interested in your input and observations.
Please feel free to e-mail AVC
Rowley directly with questions, comments, or concerns.
