UCR Proxy Server Information
In collaboration with the UCR Library, Computing and Communications (C&C)
hosts the UC Riverside Proxy Server, allowing off-campus users to gain remote
access to online resources normally restricted to the UCR Campus. Examples include:
Project Muse, Web
of Science, and ERIC - Education Resource
Information Center. Nearly all of UCR Library's online resources are available
with Proxy. To search for a database or resource available through Proxy please
To use Proxy, you will need:
- A DSL, Cable Modem, ISDN service, or 56K Internet Service Provider (such as Earthlink, or PE-Net). RAS users do not need to configure their browsers for proxy.
- To make simple changes to your browser settings
- Verification that you are a UC Riverside faculty, student or staff member.
- A valid UCR Net ID and password. Click here for more information.
Once your browser is configured to use Proxy, you will be prompted to log into (click here to view login screen) the UC Riverside Network, and then routed to the requested resource. Your login lasts for your entire session, so you can go from one resource to another without having to renter your User ID and password unless you close your browser and start over. You will not need to do any configuration setup on subsequent sessions.
America Online and Internet Service Providers who utilize firewalls do not work with the UC Riverside Proxy Service. America Online users can use a secondary browser (IE or Netscape) to access proxy resources.
The electronic resources are for personal and/or educational non-commercial use by UC Riverside faculty, students, and staff only.
UC Riverside also offers Remote Access Server (RAS) service to Academics, and Wireless Access to Academics, Students, and Staff. Academic RAS users do not need to configure their browsers for proxy.
Proxy server users are responsible for complying with the Fair Use provisions of United States and international copyright laws and for not knowingly permitting anyone else to use these licensed resources. |
