Email@UCR

With 400MB of email storage, server-side virus scanning of all email messages, web-based access, and POP/IMAP access, UCR student email accounts provide students with a high level of flexibility and security. As a UCR student, your student email account is your primary means of receiving important academic information and is mandatory for all UCR students.

  • Your professors and TA's will use email to notify students of class changes, exams, and other class-related information.
  • UCR academic and administrative departments will not use traditional mail (paper, stamps, and envelopes) as a primary delivery method. All student-specific information will be sent to student e-mail accounts.

Gaining Access

New students are given a UCR Net ID and e-mail address after submitting their Statement of Intent to Register. If you did not receive your UCR Net ID and e-mail address or have forgotten your UCR Net ID/e-mail address lookup your UCR Net ID or visit an SCS kiosk (bring your Student ID Number (SID) and PermPIN).

Your e-mail address is your UCR_Net_ID@student.ucr.edu (i.e. jdoe001@student.ucr.edu), but you can also use the following e-mail alias: first.last@email.ucr.edu or UCR_Net_ID@ucr.edu. E-mail sent to an e-mail alias is automatically redirected to your primary student e-mail address.

Note: Some first.last combinations may include a three digit number after the last name due to name repetition. Verify your address online or visit an SCS kiosk.

Your initial password is your Permanent PIN, but we recommend that you change your password as soon as possible. If you forget your Permanent PIN, bring your student ID card to the Registrar's Office.

Account Expiration

Student e-mail accounts expire one year after the student graduates or otherwise discontinues enrollment at UCR. For information about setting up permanent Alumni email forwarding from your UCR e-mail address to a personal e-mail account, visit http://ucr4life.ucr.edu.

POP/IMAP Access

UCR e-mail can be accessed via e-mail clients such as Eudora or Outlook. These programs require you to configure them with your email account information and that you have Internet service available on the computer you will be using. For more information about setting up POP or IMAP clients, visit http://cnc.ucr.edu/e-mail/.

Account Quota

Each student is allotted 400MB of e-mail storage per student account. It is a student's responsibility to ensure that she/he does not exceed their quota. Many people, including administrative departments and professors, will communicate via e-mail with a student - if an account exceeds its quota, e-mail messages will be returned to the sender. You may check the status of your account at any time by logging onto Webmail and checking the quota indicator at the top of the page. Students are notified by e-mail when their accounts reach 90% of the quota.

Spam Control
